There are two broad disciplines of skiing and it has to due with your binding and boot combo. A Nordic binding allows the heel to come free from the ski therefore allowing boot sole flex. In an Alpine system the boot sole is rigid and the heel is attached to the ski durring downhill travel.
Modern ski sizing involves length, flex and width. At Glacier Ski Shop we provide even beginners with a quality wood core ski. All our skis are well maintained and expertly selected for you.
It all starts with the Boot. The power and fit of the boot is critical for your best performance. this is why we have rear entry, two buckle, four buckle, and performance four buckle boots from a variety of manufacturers.
A rental package comes with all the essential gear for a fun day. For example; a ski pkg. is skis, boots, and poles. A snowboard pkg. is boots, bindings, and board.
This category is not based on age, but rather height, weight, and boot size. Kids have a boot size 8 thru 4 1/2, and a ski length of 70 to 140 cm.
This category is not based on age, but rather height, weight, and boot size. Youths use an adult size boot and a light weight ski from 120 to 140 cm. If you have adult size boots and require adult sized skis then you are no longer a youth in our eyes. Time to step it up!
Similar to Alpine Downhill in that you can fix your boot heel to the ski for the downhill, but the binding also allows the boot to pivot at the toe for Touring. A hybrid mountaineering and downhill boot with walk mode provides excellent ability to hike. Some bindings are compatible with downhill boots.
Nordic skiing that uses the beefiest of nordic bindings and a boot similar in stiffness and cuff height to an Alpine boot, except that it has a flexible toe box bellows. As in all Nordic skiing your heel is free and your boots are specialized to the binding system. Today, many Telemark skis are very similar if not identical to Alpine skis with the exception of the binding and where it is mounted.
A Nordic ski that is between a Cross Country and Telemark ski. This ski is made to perform better, on the downhill, than a Cross Country ski because it usually has a steel edge, a wider and shorter geometry, and a beefier core with the option of mounting a more aggressive binding. Cross Country skis differ from Telemark skis in that they are lighter, not intended for lift access downhill(routinely), can not take the forces of a larger boot and binding on the mount, and usually have a traction pattern for climbing(w/o skins) built in. This system excells at fast and light touring over rolling terrain with an emphesis on making good telemark turns on moderate slopes.
This is your classic Nordic ski with modern construction and materials. Cross Country skis are long, skinny, edgeless, and very light weight. They are designed for traveling across snow with the least amount of effort. A Cross Country ski is an excellent choice for exercise similar to walking, jogging, or hiking on flat and low angle terrain.
A great opportunity to try before you buy or just get a chance to use the latest top of the line package.
These are like giant warm and waterproof socks that enable you to use regular shoes with snowshoes.
A piece of material the same size of your ski that can be attached to give huge friction for uphill travel. When you want to go downhill you just slip them off and away you go. We have two types to choice from, performance and budget.
A really cool device that slips into your downhill ski binding and provides a hinge, so you can lift your heel for climbing. A good choice if you want to use your downhill skis for climbing and do not want to rent a pair of backcountry skis.
